WAYNE BROWN TO LEAVE THE CLUB

13 December 2012

Midfielder to join a Finnish club

Wayne Brown will leave Bristol Rovers when his contract expires at the end of the year.

The midfielder, who joined the Pirates in 2010, will be joining a Finnish team on a two yer contract from early January.

Manager Mark McGhee said: "Wayne decided on the back of the offer that we made him that he didn't think it was enough and he is going to be leaving the club in the New Year.

"I think it is probably the right thing for him. In situations like this there is a natural cull, where people who are coming out of contract have to leave as we don't have an infinite budget, and we have to make room to sign new players.

"He has been a great professional, he trains well every day and gives you 100% every time he plays and we wish him well."

Wayne signed a two year contract with the club in the summer of 2010, though he first arrived at the Memorial Stadium on 1st February 2010, on loan from Fulham, making his debut in the 5-0 defeat at Leyton Orient a day later.

A graduate of the Fulham Academy, Wayne made his first team debut for the Cottagers against Rovers in a Third Round FA Cup replay in January 2008 and made his Premier League debut, as a second half substitute, against Manchester United on 18th February 2009.

Those are the only first team appearances he made during his time at Craven Cottage, but in a three month loan spell with Brentford in 2007/08, he scored once in 11 league appearances.

Wayne has previously spent time on loan with Finnish side TPS Turku in the summer of 2009.
