Manager on tomorrow's trip to Fleetwood
John Ward will be hoping that his side can improve their poor away form when they visit Fleetwood tomorrow night.
The manager knows his side will go there as underdogs, but he says his team have happy memories from Highbury Stadium after winning there last season.
He said: “We go the away victory at Oxford, where nobody gave us a chance, and we have good results at Scunthorpe and Northampton, so we go up there with those behind us, as well as the disappointments.
“It is a game where we have to stand up and be counted, and we will do that as a group of people.
“We are not a bad team and on our day we can produce some good stuff, and if you want a reminder of that you can look back to last year when we went to Fleetwood and played some very good football when nobody gave us a chance that day either.”
And the manager will be expecting Fleewtood to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat to Exeter at the weekend.
He said: “They have played very well and we are expecting them to play better than they did at the weekend.
“They conceded three goals off set plays, which is normally one of their strengths. On any one day things can come undone.
“We are expecting them to get back together and give us a tough fixture at their place.
“But if we go there and score first, that can cause one or two questions to be asked by the home supporters.
“It is one of those nights where we have to set our stall out and start as well as we can, and if we can start well and start strong, maybe we can cause one or two problems for them.”
On the injury front, Ryan Brunt is back running, but will not be available until next season, but there is a chance Fabian Broghammer could play some part before the end of the current campaign.
John said: “Ryan Brunt is running again, and he will be back for the beginning of next season.
“Fabian Broghammer is getting close to coming back in to the rest of the group.
“He is back in the group but not having physical contact, and that is the next stage. Once that has happened, he is pretty much up to speed and ready to go, so we will see.”
The manager also confirmed that he would like to keep Alan Gow at Bristol Rovers.
He said: “Alan Gow will also be back at the beginning of next season. Alan had the operation on his ankle, but everyone tells us he should be fine for the start of pre-season.
“We are looking to keep him round for next year as he is a good player. We saw that in him here, and he can make a difference to the side.”
But despite starting to think ahead to next season, the priority remains very much the here and now.
“The priority now is going to Fleetwood, then playing on Saturday, then the next Tuesday and next Saturday.
“We have got to make sure everything is in good shape – the priority is now.”
