Manager on today's win
John Ward was pleased to see his side stay strong and get a last minute winner to take all three points against Exeter this afternoon.
The manager was again impressed with the fitness levels of his side, especially after a tough game in midweek.
He said: “We stood strong and firm in the second half because they probably had the advantage in that period.
“To defend as strongly and as well as we did enabled us to go and get a win right at the end, when there is little or no time for the opposition to recover.
“I thought we had a good period in the first half, but we didn’t take advantage of that goal wise, but our fitness levels enabled us to stay right to the end and grab a winner.
“The goal against us was unfortunate, but if you are physically fit, you are mentally fit too, and we were able to deal with the goal and come back strongly. And I was really pleased with that.”
The manager was pleased with the performance of John-Joe O’Toole, who got both goals for Rovers this afternoon.
John said: “He is a good player, he wants to win and sometimes that gets the better of him at times, and we don’t need him to miss games, as he is an important person in the team
“He has ten goals now, which is not bad for a midfield player. John-Joe plays off the cuff and goes forward, and that got us the winner today.”
Rovers have slowly been building momentum for a few weeks, and are now starting to put some important wins together.
John said: “We have only lost three out of the last 15 or 16 games so the momentum has been going for a little while, we just perhaps haven’t won enough, and some of the games have been in cup ties.
“It is a run of games that has been promising. We have two more games in the next few days, and we have to try and do it all again.
“We have got to recover now, and we have the treat of going to Birmingham on Tuesday.
“I am not saying we are going to make the play offs, as that would be a foolish thing to say.
“But if we can draw people a little bit closer to us, there is the incentive of looking at the league table and looking above us.”
And the manager is still hoping to bring in a new face next week.
He said: “I tried at the end of last week to do that, and there are reasons why that didn’t happen.
“We have made a lot of enquiries, and we think we might be able to get some positivity next week.
“It will make the squad stronger, the way Danny Woodards has done and the way Seanan Clucas will when he is back in a couple of weeks.”
