Rovers skipper talks about the season so far
Saturday's win over Grimsby showed an all round solid team performance which was something that pleased Mark McChrystal."It was a good result for us, we knew before going there it was going to be a tough game and looking back it definitely was.
"The first half was really tight but the pleasing the was that we didn't let missing the penalty get to us.
"The way we went back on in the second half and everyone played well and we got the result was great.
"I think we knew that if we kept it tight at the back then we had a real good chance of nicking something which eventually we did of course.
Matty Taylor missed a penalty in what was a very tight first half but the Rovers skipper thought the team recovered well.
"Going in 0-1 up at half time would have been a good lift for us but these things happen.
"He has hit the post but we just kept on going and we got in at half time and came back out in the second half and got the job done.
"Matty [Taylor] kept on going and as a squad we understand that people miss penalties and he kept going and I think played really well.
There was a moment in the first half where Steve Mildenhall received treatment following a collision with Lenell John-Lewis with McChrystal worried that he may have had to have pulled on the goalkeeping gloves for the second time this season.
"When I saw him go down hurt, I looked over at the bench thinking 'here we go again'.
"But thankfully he got back up and was able to carry on because I can tell you from Wrexham it's a lot harder than it looks.
Tom Lockyer scored his first goal of the season against Grimsby leaving Mark as one of the few outfield players who is yet to score this season but the captain tells us that he is 'due a goal'.
"I'm hoping that it isn't too far away, I definitely think I'm due one but for me as long as we keep these clean sheets that's my main priority.
"I'm not overly fussed who scores the goals as long as we are winning games but I would like to pop up with one or two before the end of the season.
Saturday's shut out against Grimsby was the teams 16th clean sheet of the season which is really pleasing for McChrystal.
"That is what we go off really, if you keep a clean sheet you definitely have a chance of winning the game.
"It is something that we have done on numerous occasions this season and long may that continue.
