LINCOLN MATCH PACK

12 September 2014

All you need to know ahead of tomorrow's game

Everything you need to know for tonight's game.

The Opposition: Accrington currently sit bottom of the league on four points, five points adrift of Northampton and Bury. However, the Reds are unbeaten in two matches after picking up draws at AFC Wimbledon and Oxford United. They have drawn three of their last four games and kept clean sheets in two of those matches.

In team news for them; Rob Atkinson’s hamstring problem is not as bad as first feared but he is unlikely to be available in the immediate future. Laurence Wilson and Michael Liddle are both eyeing returns but have only resumed light training. Luke Clark and James Caton remain sidelined and Kayode Odejayi serves the second match of his three match ban.

John Ward’s Comments: "I know from my experience of working in Lancashire, that a Tuesday night under floodlights, when it might be wet and windy, is a test of character, and their guys are used to that, so we are going to have to be very strong in that department to compete.

"They will look at us and say ‘this is a team going through a difficult time, who we can beat.’ We have got to make sure the attitude and approach we showed on Saturday, comes with us to Accrington.

"Any ability that we have got won’t show through unless we have a good attitude to start with. We have been saying that there is a win coming, and it might come when you don’t expect it.

"They are not winning and we have not won for a bit, so it will be the team that has the confidence and strength to have a go at the opposition."

"I am disappointed that we didn’t get the point on Saturday, as a point would have given everyone a big lift.

"The supporters were great, they backed the team to the hilt, and I think the team backed the supporters to the hilt, but we all went home with nothing. Even a point at home in those circumstances would have been a big lift."

Neither team has been in a great run of form, and the manager knows that his side are going to have to be strong to give themselves a chance of winning.

"They are not winning and we have not won for a bit, so it will be the team that has the confidence and strength to have a go at the opposition.

"If we can defend as well and be as strong as we have been in recent games away from home, perhaps we can spring ourselves on them a little bit. I don’t know how the game is going to pan out, but I do know I have a team with a really strong attitude to give us the chance of winning."

Opposition View: Manager James Beattie said: "“We have drawn three out of the last four and, if we keep turning in performances like that, we will get our first win and more will follow. I've seen teams that have been bottom of the league before and they don't carry themselves like that.

"If we show that commitment and desire we won't be at the bottom much longer. I believe in the set of lads who are in there."

*The Opposition: In the league, York sit one place and two points above Rovers, but in the magic of the cup, anything can happen. The Minstermen come into tonight's game in similar form to Rovers, having taken four points from their last two games. Last Saturday, they came from behind to draw 2-2 with Cheltenham.Bristol Rovers prepare to entertain AFC Telford looking to pick up their first three points of the new season. Rovers head to Forest Green on the back of the first win of the season against AFC Telford.

Rovers will be going in to tomorrow's game looking for their first away win of the season. The squad will travel to Sincil Bank on the back of a confidence boosting win over Wrexham on Tuesday.

Opposition:
Lincoln have won four of their opening eight games of the season and currently sit in ninth place in the league. They go into tomorrow's game on a high after beating local rivals Grimsby 3-2 in midweek.

Opposition View: Lincoln City boss Gary Simpson said: “I think they will be happier coming here than they were going to places like Altrincham and Braintree. They will be used to coming to places like this because they have only just come down from the Football League.

“On that score I think they will fancy it. They had a good win in the week against a side tipped to win the league. At the end of the day they are all tough, but as I keep saying I would not swap my squad for anyone elses and, on our day, we are a match for anyone.

“I expect Bristol to come here and put on a better performance than at Braintree or Altrincham. They have a lot of experience and they have signed some good players and we have come up against a few of them before. Neil Trotman and Adam Cunnington are very good at this level and Matt Taylor scored against us last year. So they have got some good players, but then so have we.”

Darrell Clarke's comments:  “We have got ten points out of our last five games, which is averaging two points per game, so we try and build on that in the next block of games.

“We have to pick our away form up and we will try and start that on Saturday. We have been disappointing on the road, but it is early days yet.

“Lincoln will be another difficult test, they have started the season pretty solidly and they are an ex-league club.

“I look at the reports we have had on Lincoln and see which is the best way to go about it.”

Last Meeting:  The last meeting between the two sides was the two legged play off semi final in 2007. Rovers won the first leg 2-1 at the Memorial Stadium thanks to goals from Craig Disley and Richard Walker. This was following by a thrilling match at Sincil Bank which saw Rovers win 5-3 (7-4 on aggregate), with goals from Stuart Campbell, Rickie Lambert, Richard Walker, Sammy Igoe and Sean Rigg.

Team News: Ellis Harrison returns from international duty with Wales.

The Minstermen come into tonight's game in similar form to Rovers, having taken four points from their last two games. Last Saturday, they came from behind to draw 2-2 with Cheltenham.

Opposition: Like Rovers, AFC Telford are yet to pick up a win this campaign, they also opened the season with a draw, before suffering back to back defeats. Centre back Rod McDonald and left back Chris Lever could both play their first game of the season after recovering from ankle and hamstring injuries.

Opposition View: AFC Telford manager Liam Watson told the Shorpshire Star: "I am massively surprised to see Bristol Rovers at the level. I don't know who is the biggest club, them or Luton Town, but they are definitely the biggest two to have played in the Conference.

"There will be huge pressure on them, it's only three games into the season but they wouldn't expect to be sat on one point, although we wouldn't either.

"I would prefer to play them now, when they are in this position and still unsure of themselves. Maybe that won't happen when they find their feet at the level.

"I would always fancy my teams to finish strong in the second-half of the season, that's what always seems to happen."

Marcus Stewart's comments: “We have got a big weekend coming up. We just want to get a result - you want to get your first win under your belt as soon as you can.

“We have got two games quick fire this weekend, where we can put things right. The lads are an honest bunch, and they know what is expected of them. They want to train hard, but they need to go out there with no fear.”

“Telford are not a bad side, they are quite direct and they look to put pressure on you. They are strong and understand their jobs. They will be a different prospect to Altrincham who played through the thirds.

“We are at home, we are unbeaten at home, so let’s stay like that.”

Last Meeting: You have to go all the way back to the 1971/72 for the last meeting between the two teams. It was an FA Cup match, which Rovers won 3-0.

Team News: Darrell Clarke will be assessing things ahead of tomorrow's game
