Bristol Rovers are pleased to announce that manager Darrell Clarke has signed a new contract with the club.
Darrell, who is about to commence his first full season in charge of Rovers as a League Two club, guided us to promotion from the Conference at the first attempt last season as we became the first club to bounce back from relegation to football’s fifth tier at the first attempt for ten years.
Chairman Nick Higgs said he was delighted that contract negotiations had gone well and that Darrell had put pen to paper before the start of the new campaign; “There was never any doubt that Darrell was going to stay with us and it’s just been a case of finalising the details of his contract over a period of time since the end of last season.
“The way he has conducted himself and gone about his business since he first took over as manager has made a huge impression on all of us and we are delighted to have such a well respected, and talented, young manager in charge of the team as we return to the Football League.
“Darrell’s knowledge of football at all levels is second to none, as are his man management skills, and we have every confidence in his ability to take the club forward following last season’s success.”
Darrell is pleased to have signed his new contract and said; “There was never any question of me not agreeing to sign a new contract, we just needed a little bit of time to iron out all of the details.
“Bristol Rovers is a great club with great supporters and I’m looking forward to building on to the success we had last season and can’t wait for the new campaign to begin.”
Darrell first joined Rovers in the summer of 2013, as assistant to manager John Ward, following his success as manager of Salisbury City.
He succeeded Ward as manager in March 2014 with just eight games of the season remaining.
Unable to prevent relegation to The Conference, he set about building a side capable of making a bid for promotion back to the Football League, a task he completed with some aplomb, guiding Rovers to
promotion via a Wembley Play Off Final.
A popular manager with players and supporters alike, the news that he has signed a new deal will come as a major boost as the club prepares for the 2015/16 season.
