DARRELL ON THE WEEK AHEAD

22 September 2014

Darrell Clarke is pleased with the responses from his players in what has been a busy beginning to September but is pleased that the club has a week before their next Vanarama Conference fixture.

“It’s always pleasing when you’ve won on the Saturday to have that week.

“We can now have a bit of a respite, we’ve had five games in two weeks, but the response from everyone has been great.”

Rovers swept aside Woking at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday as their winning run continued but it was the players attitude when they weren’t in possession that please to Rovers boss.

“I thought we were fantastic without the ball, I thought our shape was excellent.

“We really limited a good Woking side to long range efforts for the possession that they enjoyed but that is something that we work very hard on.

Darrell is only focused on the clubs next game, however, he is confident that his side can still improve.

“We’ve played a quarter of the season now and we’ve done OK. That’s where we are at currently.

“It’s a squad that can improve and I really believe that.

“We just have to keep working hard and working at those bits and pieces that we haven’t been so good at in the first quarter of the season and trying to improve as much as we can in the second quarter.”

Next up for Rovers is a trip to the Merseyrail Community Stadium to take on Southport and Darrell insists that it is going to be another tough game.

“It’s going to be another tough game Saturday, Southport are coming off the back of a defeat to Macclesfield and will have a full week to work on everything.

“They are going to be right up for it because it’s Bristol Rovers coming to town.”

In the mean time the club have a friendly tomorrow morning (11am kick off) against Forest Green Rovers at the Memorial Stadium, which Darrell believes some of his squad need.

“It will be a strong squad that plays tomorrow because it is a game we want to win and we want to keep up that winning mentality within the camp.

“It’s a good chance for some of the boys to get a full 90 minutes under their belt which can only be good for them.”
