DARRELL'S POST MATCH REACTION

1 August 2014

Manager on tonight's defeat

Darrell Clarke was pleased with the attitude and application shown by his team in tonight’s defeat to Coventry at the Memorial Stadium.

However the manager was disappointed to lose the game to a set piece.

He said: “There are positives and negatives. I thought we applied ourselves right, and the work rate and attitude of the players was fantastic.

“I thought we did well against a team who knocked the ball down and whose movement was very good – we are probably not going to come up against something like that in the Conference.

“I am disappointed to lose a game on a set piece, it takes the gloss off of it a little bit.

“Games are won and lost on set pieces, so it is an area of the game we need to tighten up on.

“It was a good work out for my players, they had a lot of possession and I thought we looked a goal threat at times.”

Darrell was pleased to see his side come through the game without picking up any injuries.

He said: “We have a good solid 16 at the moment, we are a little bit short in depth but the boys are working really hard. I am pleased that we got through the game with no injuries.

“If we don’t pick up any injuries next week it leaves me with a fully fit squad for the Grimsby game.

“Ryan Brunt has not missed a day’s training since he joined in full time and has applied himself really well and got some important minutes under his belt.

“Lee Mansell passed a fitness test earlier so we put him on the bench and got 45 minutes, which is a timely boost.

“Tom Lockyer had a tight hamstring, but nothing too sinister.”

And the manager hopes there could be a couple of new faces in over the next few days.

He said: “I would like to think there would be some development over the next few days. There are offers on the table to players, and I am going for quality rather than quantity.”
