Nick on the events of the week
I was pleased to see the team pick up their first win of the season against Telford last Saturday, which they followed up with a good solid point away at Forest Green on Monday.In front of another fantastic home crowd at the Mem, the players overcame their early nerves to bag the only goal of the game, thanks to an excellent long range strike from Ollie Clarke.
On another day we could have won by three or four, but the goal seemed to settle the players, and allow them more composure on the ball.
We then travelled to in-form Forest Green, and put in another spirited display. It was a very solid point, but I am sure you will agree that it is a game that we should have won, as we were the better team.
Even though the team are beginning to gel, we are still looking to bring in a new face before the transfer window closes on Monday.
The support for both of those games was absolutely phenomenal, and I would like to thank you all for continuing to back Darrell and the boys. Our home attendance last weekend was again higher than many in both League One and League Two, and at Forest Green we made up half of the crowd.
The noise coming from the away sides of The New Lawn was incredible, and you all painted a fantastic picture of the club for the TV cameras.
I would like to congratulate three of our squad who have been called up to represent their country next month. Ellis Harrison, Jake Gosling and Kieran Preston will all be heading off on International duty with their respective countries. Being asked to represent your country is a huge honour, and I would like to wish all three of them well.
I would also like to congratulate first year professional Dominic Thomas who was presented with an award at last Saturday’s game, for making it into the League Football Education ‘The XI’, which recognises academic and footballing excellence.
I am sure you will have all seen the story in the media this week regarding the current situation with Sainsbury’s. I understand you are all incredibly frustrated, but we are not allowed to make any further comment on this for legal reasons. I hope to be able to give you some more news soon, but for now we all have to remain patient, however hard that may be.
