MATTY: 'IT'S A BIG GAME FOR BOTH TEAMS'

29 November 2016

Matty Taylor insists that he wants to continue to score consistently to benefit the team this campaign, in this exclusive interview for GasPlayer HD.

Casting his assessment on Saturday's defeat, the striker admitted that he believed that Rovers were on top for large parts of the game, but were unable to capitalise during the fixture.

"We dominated large spells of the game and we managed to get an early goal, which I thought would help to set us on our way," said Matty.

"Fairplay to Chesterfield they managed to dig themselves back into the game and managed to score enough goals  to see it through, which was obviously disappointing from our point of view."

With a break from SkyBet League One action this weekend, the striker hopes that the FA Cup can provide a welcome distraction for Rovers, as they look to book their place in the Third Round of the competition.

"I think that it is good that we are able to put the league to one side for a week and obviously it is a big game for both teams on Sunday."

"We haven't managed to get to the third round of the FA Cup during my time at the club, but we know that Barrow will by trying their hardest to progress as well, so I'm sure it will be a tasty game.

"I keep an eye on the non-league scene and I know that Barrow have invested a lot of money at that level and they will be having a right go at getting out of the Conference this year."

"I think that it will be a very tough game, but were are at home, so we will be heading into the match confident and fingers crossed we can get a result."

"To get one of the big Premier League sides away in the third round would be amazing and we had a taste of it already this season during our game against Chelsea. Those cup ties are special days, which don't come around too often, so fingers crossed we can put our name in the hat for the third-round draw."

The forward has notched up fifteen goals so far this campaign and although he is keeping tight-lipped about his goal targets for the season, he has challenged himself to continue his consistent form in front of goal to benefit the team.

"I'm delighted to have fifteen goals by the end of November and I'm now ahead of my goal tally last year. Hopefully, I can keep ticking along nicely and keep scoring regularly, which I'm sure will help the team pick up points."
