Charity Collection at Saturday's Game

8 October 2021

The charity 'Go Again' will be raising funds at our fixture against Carlisle United this weekend.

Go Again Wellbeing CIC is a Not-For Profit organisation made up of professional Mental Health Practitioners who work alongside player and coach mentors to provide free holistic support to players at all levels of the game including junior, grassroots, non-league and academy. Go Again also provide follow up support to those who have been released by clubs and academies.

Bristol Rovers safeguarding and welfare staff will be working alongside Go Again in order to provide mental health support to players and staff at Bristol Rovers FC Academy.

To celebrate World Mental Health day (10th October) and the partnership with Bristol Rovers Academy Go Again staff will attend the Bristol Rovers v Carlisle United game on Saturday 9th October.

Go Again provides a free service and is run through fundraising. Go Again staff will be fundraising before the match so keep an eye out for them. They will be happy to discuss the service that they are providing to the academy.

A charity spokesperson said, "We look forward to working together on ways to support players and staff’s psychological wellbeing including the production of content to enhance mental wellbeing, build resilience and psychological strength, ensuring that players can manage challenges and setbacks both on and off the pitch. Our content will relate psychological tools to football with the use of graphics in order to make them relatable.

"We hope to support staff by offering an outlet and to support their own wellbeing and offer advice on ways to support their players through any emotional difficulties.

We would like to offer a systemic approach to players supporting both them and their support network through any challenges they may face.

"Our aim is to make it as easy as possible to reach out in a confidential way that is met with a fast response."

"Bristol Rovers FC Academy is creating a culture from the top where speaking openly about mental health is seen as a strength and something that can help in the development of both the player and the person. Speaking openly about mental health can help to build the psychological tools necessary to cope with challenges both on and off the pitch.

"Another key area that Bristol Rovers Academy are focussing on is the aftercare for players who have been released by the academy. Go Again will support academy staff to follow up players who have left the academy and offer psychological support to anyone who may be struggling with this transition."
