Match Preview - Rovers v Tranmere

19 November 2021

Rovers welcome Tranmere Rovers this weekend as the Gas look to make it three wins in a row at the Mem.

Last time out in the league, Rovers triumphed over Northampton Town coming back from a goal down to win 2-1. This weekend, Rovers face Tranmere Rovers who sit above the Gas in the Sky Bet League Two table. Below is all you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Manager's Preview

Rovers boss, Joey Barton sat down with local press on Friday morning. On the agenda was Tuesday's sensational FA Cup victory over Oxford United. The Rovers Manager also previewed tomorrow's game and insists the team has turned a corner in recent weeks.

"For me, the real tipping point was Sion’s winner at Walsall, for sure, because from that moment we knew we could win away from home, which had been a while.

We came back from being behind having played well, and I think for the players to realise just what it meant to the fans. There were chaotic scenes in that Walsall game and the passion of our fans really shone through to the players.

Since that moment, it hasn’t quite been a linear climb. There have been some tough moments with a defeat to Newport at home, but the green shoots of recovery and signs something was afoot and change was happening happened in that Walsall game.

I think the lads have gone from strength to strength in that regard and we’ve got a lot of hard work in front of us."

Opposition View

Speaking to, Manager, Micky Mellon has said that his team will try to carry more of an attacking threat in the game on Saturday.

"I've seen progress even in the weekends we've lost games, we're still moving forward. What we've got to do is try and establish a way of playing, establish a way of trying to create chances and score goals, establish a way of trying to keep clean sheets and keep an eye on that with personnel or the team shape.

"We look at that with an evidence-based eye and find out is it working and that's what we're able to do and that's what we'll always do. So, we'll tweak and look at maybe trying to do different things to try and become a bit more of an attacking threat and play things a wee bit differently to see if that works for us.

"We've worked on it this week and the proof of the pudding will be how we perform at it this weekend."
