This Saturday, 'Gasheads Against Food Poverty' will be at the Mem collecting donations for local food banks in the run-up to the festive period.
Gasheads Against Food Poverty was set up in 2018, with the ambition of helping to solve hunger across the city of Bristol.
Donations can be made between 1pm-2:30pm on Saturday at the Memorial Stadium. The following items illustrate the type of donations they are looking for, although all donations will be welcomed;
- Instant mash
- Tinned fruit
- Sponge/Rice pudding
- Tinned Potatoes
- UHT Milk
- Tea/Coffee
- Long-life juice
- Size 5/6 nappies
To partner with the appeal for donations will be wearing our away kit on Saturday for the visit of Rochdale to the Memorial Stadium, to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness.
CEO Tom Gorringe said, "We are delighted to be working again with the Gasheads Against Food Poverty charity.
"We know the amount of strain that local food banks are under at this busy time of year and your donations will make a real difference in the local community.
"Their last collection here at the Mem in 2019 saw a tremendous amount of donations received from Rovers supporters.
"I've been in dialogue with the first-team staff and players, as they are also eager to show their support.
"Our thanks go to the group of supporters who dedicate their time to make the initiative such a success and I’m sure our fanbase will once again get behind this great cause.
"We will also be wearing our away kit on Saturday to raise awareness around the issue of homelessness, supporting Shelter's football wide campaign that several EFL clubs will be supporting across the festive fixtures.'
"Gasheads Against Food Poverty added, “Currently 1 in 5 people in the UK live below the poverty line. The Trussell Trust Group have seen an 11% increase in the amount of emergency food parcels handed out between April and September from 2019 to 2020. More alarmingly between April and September 2021 2,000 food parcels a day were handed out to children.
"The Trussell Trust Group do a fantastic job in helping people who need it the most and it is an honour to be able to support them along with fellow Gasheads.
"The last collections we held, we collected over a tonne of food which is truly phenomenal and we aim to make this year even bigger.”
