Match Preview: Fleetwood Town

23 January 2020

The Gas face Fleetwood Town at home in Ben Garner's return to the helm of the Club...

Rovers will look to recover from a 3-0 defeat to league leaders Rotherham United on the road last weekend.

They face a Fleetwood side also in a tricky run of form, having failed to win since boxing day, with their most recent result a 2-2 draw against Shrewsbury Town at home on the weekend.

The Gas now lie in 13th place in the league, but still remain optimistic, just 5 points outside of the play-offs.

Manager's Preview: On his return from leave, Ben Garner caught up with the press to reflect on his time away and look forward to Fleetwood.

Opposition: Fleetwood Town have suffered similar struggles to Rovers since Christmas day, having only come away with a victory on one occasion since the festivities - a 3-2 win over Rochdale on Boxing day. The Gas only faced Fleetwood Town away from home less than a month ago, in a 0-0 draw that could be described as anything but boring.

Press Talk: Joey Barton pointed out the impact the crowd can have on a game such as this, "Bristol Rovers are a good side; they defend the goal fantastically well and it’s a really tough place to go. They’ve got a good crowd at Bristol Rovers so whether they’re on a good run or a bad run, it’s a tough place to go."

Last Time We Met: With a Ched Evans goal ruled out in the second half, and a last-minute flick from Tom Nichols ricocheting off the bar, then off the 'keeper, the Gas' last meeting with Fleetwood Town was an eventful 0-0 draw.
