Match Preview: AFC Wimbledon v Bristol Rovers

4 December 2020

Check at our preview ahead of the Gas' trip to Plough Lane to take on AFC Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon...

Rovers hit the road this weekend, traveling to London to take on AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane. Interestingly, despite London's move to Tier 2, the club have opted to postpone the return of fans until January 2021, with their brand new stadium yet to host supporters.

The Gas will be looking to take advantage of this absence of supporters to record a result on the road to rebound from midweek disappointment against Gillingham. Rovers have shown an upturn in attacking intent in recent weeks, with 6 goals against Darlington on Sunday, and a host of chances to open the scoring at the Mem on Wednesday.

With results going their way, a win could take Rovers up to 18th in the league.

Manager's Preview...

Speaking to the press following our midweek game, Paul Tisdale looked ahead to the game ahead of him and his squad, saying "Every game in this league is a challenge, we're playing at Plough Lane, away from home against a professional outfit who will want the 3 points. Let's start with that and keep it simple, we need to be in the fight, we need to be competitive and we need to get our basics right."

Opposition View...

AFC Wimbledon will be on a high somewhat following an impressive display at home to pick up their first win at Plough Lane, against a Peterborough United flying high in the league.

Looking ahead to the game, manager Glynn Hodges told 'It's a hard game for me, we're making sure the players know that it's a tough game, there's no divine right in football to win.'

Form Guide...

It's been a mixed bag of form for the South-London side over recent weeks, with their most recent result, a 2-1 win over the Posh at Plough Lane, a highlight amongst their previous results.

Over the weekend, the Wombles exited the FA Cup at the hands of close-by Crawley Town, losing 2-1. Previous to that, they faced Gillingham in the league, with Wimbledon ending up on the wrong end of another 2-1 scoreline.

Previous Encounter...

Abu Ogogo, Tony Craig and Jonson Clarke-Harris got themselves on the scoresheet as the Gas returned with 3 points from their last encounter away from home against Wimbledon.

After going 1-0 down early on, Rovers showed a strong spirit to fight back on away turf and secure the maximum points haul.

How to watch...

Our support has continued to make us proud over throughout this season, with the Gas regularly attracting some of the largest watch-along audiences in the League. Catch Saturday's game live on iFollow, find our guide below!

Around the grounds...

League One is as tight as ever, with only six points standing as the gap between Rovers in 21st and Crewe Alexandra in 13th. Two former-Premier League outfits collide as Sunderland host Wigan Athletic this weekend, while League One heavyweights Peterborough and Portsmouth meet on the south coast. Elsewhere, Ipswich travel the length of the country to visit Home Park on Saturday afternoon.
