Match Preview: Gillingham

16 September 2019

All the information you need ahead of Tuesday night's match in one place...

Rovers return home victorious from their battle with Lincoln at Sincil bank at the weekend.

A second-half penalty from Jonson Clarke-Harris was enough to separate the two sides following Tom Nichols being brought down in the area.

Gillingham have also had a successful weekend, beating Wycombe Wanderers 2-0, who were top of the table before kick-off.

Below is all the pre-match content ahead of Saturday's game...

Manager's Preview: Kevin Maher stepped up to take on the press on Monday morning, and he reflected on a successful weekend before looking forward to the midweek fixture.

Player's Preview: After some wild celebrations following the final whistle at Sincil Bank on Saturday, Abu Ogogo spoke to the press, looking forward to his next chance to celebrate!

Opposition:

Gillingham began the 2019/20 season slowly, failing to win in their first four outings of the campaign before a 5-0 victory over Bolton at the end of August, though given the quality of their opposition, fears still remained. However, following victory on the weekend, Gillingham has propelled themselves to just two points, and two places behind the Gas. Furthermore, the win came against Wycombe Wanderers who were topping the tree prior to kick-off, and the result against Gillingham was their first defeat of the season.

In the squad for that Wycombe game were two very familiar faces to Rovers fans, Jack Bonham and Alex Jakubiak, both of which turned out for the Gas last campaign. Bonham played 40 games in goal for the club last season, whilst Jakubiak played 38, scoring twice, but looking more talented than that record illustrates. He has begun his time at Gillingham in fine form, scoring four goals in his six league games so far.

Paper Talk: Gillingham manager Steve Evans credited the job Coughlan and his side did at the weekend in his pre-match interview, telling www.gillinghamfootballclub.com, "Any team that can go away to Lincoln City and win fairly comfortably deserves the highest level of respect from any team at any level in English football."

Kit: Rovers will be wearing their famous blue and white quarters at home.
