Match Preview: Shrewsbury Town v Rovers

31 August 2018

Rovers travel to Shropshire on Saturday afternoon, to take on Shrewsbury Town in the Sky Bet League One.

Rovers are in search of their second league win of the season, with their only set of three points so far coming from their trip to Wycombe Wanderers.

Summer recruits Stefan Payne and Alex Rodman will both be returning to their most recent former stomping grounds, whilst loan signings Jack Bonham and Joe Martin could both make their debuts at New Meadow.

Darrell's View: The gaffer spoke to the press on Friday ahead of Saturday's game and gave his thoughts on the contest.

Opposition View: Shrewsbury are yet to pick up three points this season having lost three and drawn two of their opening fixtures. They came close in their last league outing, holding a 2-1 lead away to League One new boys Luton Town with under 20 minutes to go, however three-minute double from the Hatter ensured the points stayed at Kenilworth Road. Midweek they did manage a victory in the Checkatrade Trophy, sneaking past Manchester City U21s on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Last Time We Met: Back in early February this year, Rovers welcomed an in-form Shrewsbury to the Mem in what turned out to be a tightly-fought contest. Omar Beckles gave the visitors the lead just past the hour mark, only for a token Joe Partington goal to peg them back just minutes later. As the game approached its conclusion, the Shrews stole all the points as Toto Nsiala popped up with the winner.

Tickets: Rovers supporters will be able to pay on the day. Please be aware that these are CASH ONLY ticket sales.
