Bristol Rovers 2-1 Dagenham & Redbridge

Attendance: 11,130 (291)

Bristol Rovers are promoted to League One after a 2-1 win against Dagenham & Redbridge.

Lee Brown's injury time winner secured all three points and promotion after Billy Bodin canceled out Matty Cash's first half opener.

Darrell Clarke named an unchanged side to face relegated Dagenham & Redbridge after a positive win against York City last weekend.

Rovers started well and stung the palms of Mark Cousins early as Rory Gaffney played the ball into the path of Billy Bodin who unleashed a powerful drive goalwards but straight at Cousins.

Cristian Montano was also on early threat on the Rovers left flank and Rovers almost took the lead from his inch perfect cross but Matty Taylor just miss-timed his header.

However for all of their early pressure it was the relegated side who took a 12th minute lead. A long ball from the Daggers was flicked on by Cristian Doidge into the path of Matty Cash who calmly dispatched the ball past Steve Mildenhall.

The Memorial Stadium crowd were momentarily stunned but the in form Billy Bodin had other ideas pulling Rovers back under five minutes later.

Cristian Montano's cross from the left was cleared out to Billy Bodin who had no trouble taking the ball past Luke Pennell before twisting and turning further in the penalty area before lashing a shot past Cousins.

After the Rovers goal, the game was wide open with the home side having several chances as Cristian Montano and Rory Gaffney both had decent opportunities before Tom Lockyer glanced a header narrowly wide from a Lee Brown corner.

With 30 minutes on the clock Rovers stepped up a gear as Lee Brown's corner was flicked on at the near post by Matty Taylor onto the head of skipper Mark McChrystal who could only arrow his header over the bar.

Billy Bodin was causing the Dagenham back line all sorts of trouble and it was his run in from the right hand side, followed by a neat through to Cristian Montano that opened up the defence but Mark Cousins was out quick to pounce on the shot with a great reaction save.

Rovers came out looking determined in the second half but efforts from Matty Taylor and Rory Gaffney were scrambled clear as the rain started to hammer down at the Memorial Stadium.

With news of Oxford taking the lead ringing around the Mem Rovers began to turn the screw as the ball fell to substitute Jake Gosling in the penalty area but the Gibraltar International was denied by another great stop from Mark Cousins.

Darrell Clarke's side continued to push for that all important second goal as Ellis Harrison replaced Rory Gaffney and the Welshman was involved almost instantly as Gosling picked him out in the penalty area but Harrison dragged his shot wide.

The pressure was building at the Mem as Matty Taylor found some space on the edge of the area and lashed a shot goalwards only for his powerful effort to cannon off of Jimmy Shepherd and onto the crossbar.

Seconds later Taylor was able to skip past Jack Connors before forcing yet another good save from Mark Cousins, this time with his feet.

Rovers continued to press to find what proved to be a decisive goal when the leagues top goal scorer Matty Taylor was played through on goal but curled his effort just wide of the Dagenham goal.

Caution was thrown to the wind in the dying exchanges as Jermaine Easter picked out Taylor again who spun his man before crashing an effort off the inside of the post into the path of Lee Brown who fired into an empty goal to send the Memorial Stadium into fits of celebration.
