Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 Bristol Rovers

Attendance: 4,759 (1,629)

Luke O'Nien's late header snatched all three points for Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.

Darrell Clarke made four changes to the side that was victorious against Morecambe last weekend as Mark McChrystal, Lee Mansell, Ollie Clarke and Jermaine Easter came into the squad replacing Tom Parkes, Chris Lines, Stuart Sinclair and Matty Taylor who all dropped to the substitutes bench with the exception of Stuart Sinclair who is injured.

It was all Wycombe in the opening 10 minutes at Adams Park and it was the home side who created the first real opportunity of the game. A slick passing move down the Chairboys left created space for Marcus Bean in the penalty area but the midfielder embarrassingly missed the target before being flagged offside.

Rovers had control of the ball for most of the opening 25 minutes but never really tested Ryan Allsop in the Wanderers goal with the only effort of note being a Lee Brown first time volley which went high and wide.

With 30 minutes on the clock we had our first save of the game. Rovers skipper Mark McChrystal was judged to have fouled his man by the referee giving Wycombe a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Former Rovers man Joe Jacobson stepped up and hit the free kick direct but Steve Mildenhall was able to get down low and palm the ball behind for a corner.

The Chairboys floated a corner in which Rovers cleared with ease and formed a counter attack where they won a corner of their own. Liam Lawrence floated the ball in, the ball was cleared to Ollie Clarke on the edge of the penalty area who struck it but his shot was deflected into the arms of Ryan Allsop.

Wycombe came close just before half time as Max Kretzschmar shrugged off a tackle from Mark McChrystal but could only fire his shot into the side netting.

The second half started as the first ended with Kretzschmar going close for the home side. A nice flowing passing move from the home side was worked to the Wycombe forward but he again hit the side netting.

Rovers first chance of the second period came down the left hand side, Lee Brown whipped a lovely ball into the penalty area where Jermaine Easter flicked the ball just wide of the post.

Darrell Clarke's side grew into the second half and after a succession of corners Rovers started to test Ryan Allsop. Initially Lee Mansell got a toe on a Liam Lawrence corner which got deflected into the arms of the Wanderers keeper.

Minutes later the referee allowed play to go on after foul on Liam Lawrence but Ollie Clarke picked up the ball and let fly from range which forced a good save from Allsop.

Wycombe had rare chances in the second half but Rovers were kept in the game by a fantastic save from Steve Mildenhall. Jason McCarthy looked like he had given the Chairboys the lead only to see his downward header clawed off the line by the Rovers shotstopper.

Rovers stated to assert their dominance going into the closing stages as substitute Billy Bodin was turning his man inside out in the penalty area, Bodin tried one final chop before hitting the ground but the referee waved away his claims for a penalty.

However as the game looked like it was going to end goalless the home side took the lead as Joe Jacobson whipped a ball into the penalty area where Luke O'Nien nodded the ball down into the ground and past Mildenhall.

Up next for Rovers is the visit of Hartlepool United to the Mem on Tuesday night before Darrell Clarke's men travel to Notts County next weekend.
