AFC Wimbledon 1-1 Bristol Rovers
Sat 14th March 2015Blake Davies was again on target for our U-18 side as they drew 1-1 against AFC Wimbledon last Saturday.
The game was played on a dry, bobbly, pitch and was very similar to the match against Dagenham & Redbridge two days earlier.
Youth Team Manager Alan Walsh said; “In the first half we limited them to very few opportunities and although we didn’t create too many ourselves, we forced their goalkeeper into making three or four decent saves, two of which were from Blake Davies efforts from the edge of the box.”
It was a different story after the break, though, as the game opened up.
“There were chances for both sides, though it was Wimbledon who opened the scoring just after the hour mark. It was a disappointing one to concede and could easily have been avoided.
“Goalkeeper Kieran Preston and his defenders hesitated as a long ball was played forward and their lad nipped in and headed past Kieran.
“However the lads deserve great credit for the way they dug in after that and battled to force an equaliser, which eventually arrived following one of many goalmouth scrambles. When a shot was deflected off of a defender on to the crossbar, the rebound fell to Blake whose header took another deflection on its way into the net.
“On the strength of our first half display, I felt that we might have won this game, but in the end we had to settle for a point.”
