ROVERS UNDER-18'S LOSE TO YEOVIL TOWN

7 December 2015

Bristol Rovers 1-3 Yeovil Town

Our U-18 side were beaten 3-1 by their Yeovil Town counterparts in this game, which was switched to Yeovil's ground as our pitch at Golden Hill was unplayable following heavy rainfall.

Although a second half George Corp penalty put Alan Walsh's side on level terms early in the second half, they conceded two late goals in a disappointing performance.

"The first half," said Alan, "was fairly even though we had what was probably the best chance when Olly Mehew was clipped just outside the areas by the Yeovil goalkeeper who had rushed off his line to clear. Had Olly been able to go round him, he would have been left with an open goal. However we had to settle for a free kick which, unfortunately, sailed over the bar.

"Following a goalless first half Yeovil took the lead two minutes after the break when slack marking, and not being switched on when a ball was played into our box, cost us dearly as theyscored with a simple tap in from close range following our inability to clear our lines.

"We were handed a lifeline two minutes later when George Corp equalised from the penalty spot after a challenge on Tyrone Tucker-Dixon in the area was deemed to be a foul by the referee.

"The game was fairly even after that, until nine minutes from time when Yeovil were awarded a penalty following a tussle between Alfie Kilgour and one of their players.

"They scored from the resulting spot kick and added a third goal immediately afterwards when none of our defenders took responsibility for clearing another ball into our box. Although an initial shot was blocked, a follow up effort took a deflection and ended up in the back of our net.

"If I'm honest, our performance was one of the worst in my three and a half years in charge. We are on a bad run at present and it's going to take a great deal of hard work on the training ground to get things right."
