Bristol Rovers 7-1 Burton Albion
Attendance: 5,353Referee: Trevor Kettle
On this day back in 2012 Bristol Rovers thrashed Burton Albion 7-1 at the Memorial Stadium.
Former Rovers front man Eliot Richards netted his first professional hat-trick in that game as well as a brace from Matt Harrold and goals from Mustapha Carayol and Jim Paterson.
Mustapha Carayol opened the scoring with a swerving 30-yard drive before half time but Rovers went goal crazy after the break to record their biggest win of the 2011–12 season.
Richards scored the games second goal moments after the restart before Calvin Zola pulled a goal back for the Albion which in the end only proved to be a mere consolation.
However, Rovers stepped up a gear and when Eliot Richards was brought down in the area on the hour mark and Matt Harrold converted the resulting spot kick to restore the home sides two goal advantage.
After this he floodgates opened and Jim Paterson, Matt Harrold and Eliot Richards all scored within the next 15 minutes, before Richards completed his first career hat-trick on the 81st minute to round off a remarkable day for the men in blue and white quarters.
