The Fans4Life programme will help sports fans who do very little exercise and are overweight to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle. Research has shown that taking part in this programme could add 6 seasons to a fan’s life.
The Fans4Life project aims to improve the health and well-being of the people of Bristol and South Gloucestershire using a 10 week exercise and education programme to target sports fans living in one of the poorest health areas of the South West.
Each year preventable diseases such as diabetes and coronary heart disease cost the Bristol area alone roughly £7.5 million per year and current interventions have struggled to engage a wide variety of participants
Education sessions will look at:
Ways of giving up smoking, sensible drinking limits, heart health, stress and mental health as well as healthy eating including food preparation and nutrition as well as 1:1 GP sessions
All will be led by qualified NHS staff and exercise sessions will be led by qualified strength and conditioning coaches from within the club and take place at venues across the city.
The programme is open to all adults regardless of club or sport allegiance. We are aiming to recruit participants from across the city and South Glos including fans from both Bristol Football clubs, Bristol Rugby, Gloustershire Cricket Club, Bristol Academy, in fact any club at whatever level across the South West.
We are supported by both Bristol and South Glos councils as well as NHS Bristol and the University of Gloucester.
