Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke sat down with the media after a comfortable 2-0 win against Southport.

“Southport were a bit depleted today and we took advantage of that to be fair, it was a comfortable performance, but it’s always a tough ask being the 3rd game in 8 days, but three points is the main thing and we move on.”

With Rovers and Barnet both winning today and Grimsby losing, with Darrell Clarke saying “it looks as though it’s a two horse race now.” The gas and Barnet will be battling it out for the single promotion spot at the top of the Vanarama Conference.

Rovers rarely seemed like losing this game and it was relatively comfortable for the promotion chasers.

The Rovers boss said “Southport worked to get plenty of men behind the ball all game really and never really changed it, I don’t think he had a lot of choices to change it. But in general I thought our performance was pretty commanding.”

Ellis Harrison and Matty Taylor both continued their fine goal scoring records with a strike each. Clarke said “ Another goal for both my strikers, it’s good to get strikers on the score sheet, that’s Matty’s fifth in five games now so I’m pleased for them both, they work hard for the team.”

Barnet are at the top of the league and only a point separates them, it could come down to the last game of the season until it is decided.

“We can only take care of our own business, if Barnet win the next two games they win the league it’s as simple as that. What we’ve got to do is try and win our next two to make it very difficult for them. We’re in good form and you never know.
