Saturday’s game with Aldershot marked a third of the 2014/15 season with games coming thick and fast before the winter months set in and Rovers boss Darrell Clarke is looking forward to just playing on a weekend for a while.

“It’s been 8 weeks and 16 games. It is a heavy work load for the players and to be fair we haven’t suffered from many injuries.

“A lot of the lads have been playing quite regular and with the run that we’ve been on I haven’t see any real need to change it.

“They have played a lot of games, so now it is a chance to only have games on a Saturday for the next few weeks which is good for everyone.

“I think we’ve got a fit bunch of lads but fatigue can still creep in if you are playing a lot of games but that is the same for every team.

“Now it is about getting the balance right between the rest and the work on the training ground.”

Aldershot Town and Bristol Rovers shared a point in Saturday’s game and Darrell Clarke believes that the draw was probably about right.

“I think the game could have gone either way but in the end I think a draw was a fair result for both teams.

“They started the second half well but I thought we dealt well with it before taking the lead ourselves.

“The key point for me is that at 2-1 we had a couple of opportunities to put the game to bed before the lad scored a fantastic free kick to make it 2-2.

Rovers will be without Tom Lockyer for the visit of Forest Green Rovers after the young Welshman picked up his fifth booking of the 2014/15 campaign at the ES Stadium on Saturday which gives Daniel Leadbitter a real chance for a starting position.

“Dan [Leadbitter] has had to be patient, but there is no doubt that he will get an opportunity Saturday.

“Tom [Lockyer] has done very well at right back but when Dan has come in he has done a great job so he is definitely in contention.

When asked about bringing players into the football club the Rovers boss stressed that it must be the right player and that he won’t just bring in another body.

“It has to be the right player and it has to be at the right price, there is no point bringing anyone in just for the sake of it.

“I’ve got one or two irons in the fire at the minute but we will have to see what develops.

“Normally if I’m after a player I’m sure there is someone else looking at him and we could end up back at square one.”

Next up for Rovers is the game against Forest Green Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday just 54 days after the game at The New Lawn and Darrell is expecting another tough game.

“It’s a good game to look forward to, Forest Green have picked up of late and are right in the mix as they should be.

“It was a tough game in front of the TV cameras at their place and I’m expecting more of the same for Saturday’s game.”
