Rovers managed to come from behind twice against Gateshead on Friday night and the assistant manager believes that Rovers definitely should have won the game.

“We got the three points that I think we deserved over the course of the game if you look at shots on goal and chances created.

“They had a lot of possession in the first half and were able to keep our fans quiet and we had to be very patient and I think we dominated the second half.

“The atmosphere was brilliant during that second half and that is the atmosphere that the lads want to play in every week.

“It was important that we gave them a goal having not scored for a while before that and then the two after really gave them something to cheer about.

Lee Mansell scored one of the goals in Friday’s win but Marcus tells us that he offers a great deal off of the football pitch as well.

“Lee is a very positive person and he has come up with his fair share of important goals for us this season and he adds a lot of value to this team with his experience.

“His experience isn’t only on the football pitch but he is brilliant around the place with some of the younger pro’s he is a brilliant example.

“It was important at the end of last season that we brought the right characters into this football club and they are people that will fight for this team and Lee is one of those players that we have brought it that is doing that.

Marcus has been Darrell’s assistant since he took change at the end of last season and he believes that Darrell is the right man for the job.

“The club was at rock bottom at the end of last season and it was about getting a manager who is hungry which Darrell is.

“He is hungry, he wants to succeed and he wants this club to do well and be back where the club should be.

“I think he has brought the right players in with the right attitude to win the supporters around with their performances and now some of them are adding goals to their games.

Although Marcus says he doesn’t miss playing football, he did say that the Christmas period is all about football.

“It is tough for footballers over the Christmas period but I think that you get used to it.

“If you are playing or not you still have to come in and train but that’s just what football is now.
