CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

7 August 2014

Nick on the new season

It has been a long and difficult summer, but now the time has come to try to put that all behind us, and look forward with optimism, to an exciting and successful season under Darrell Clarke.

We have learnt some very hard lessons over the last few months, and I am very sorry for the situation we find ourselves in. But we must now try to draw a line under the past and come together to help this club progress.

We are much stronger together, and since our recent Fans Forum I hope you have all seen improved communication and greater transparency from the club.

I have been very impressed with the recruitment over the summer, and I think Darrell has assembled a squad with a fantastic mix of youth and experience, who are hungry for success.

Stuart Sinclair has become an instant fans favourite, and Matt Taylor and Daniel Leadbitter looked impressive against Coventry in our final pre-season game.

I think we now have a team who are once again proud to wear the quarters and really represent this football club.

On Saturday we hope to have the Mem full of the fans of the future, thanks to our kids go free ticket offer. It is important that we reach out to these youngsters, and hopefully we can secure the next generation of Gasheads – an exciting performance on the pitch will clearly help!

We hope to run a number of incentives and offers throughout the season, including special offers for season ticket holders, so please keep your eyes open.

Let’s hope we can get off to a good start with three points in front of the TV cameras on Saturday. Although a win would be a massive boost, we have to remember that this will be a long season, and nothing is won and loss on the opening day.

Thank you for your continued support, it really is appreciated.
