Rovers are defeated at the Mem.
Rovers had a bright opening to the game. Aaron Collins' flicked header on the 10-minute mark was blocked by Omar Beckles in the Orient back-line. Moments after, Collins looked to be in on goal after getting the better of his marker, Connor Wood. Collins skipped past the defender only for referee, David Rock to blow his whistle for a foul on Wood.
The O's took the lead shortly after. A corner whipped in by Tom James found the head of in-form striker Harry Smith at the front post, whose headed effort snuck past Belshaw in the Rovers goal.
Rovers looked to find a way back into the game and almost made the breakthrough after Belshaw claimed the ball following a Leyton Orient free-kick. Belshaw then looked to get Rovers on the counter-attack when his driven drop-kick almost found Sam Finley, who forced Orient goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux to kick the ball out of play.
The visitors doubled their lead through Theo Archibald after his low-driven shot made its way through the crowded Rovers box into the corner of the net. Rovers came close to halving the deficit. A corner that was sent in by Antony Evans found the head of Brett Pitman who was only able to flick his header over the crossbar. Orient added a third goal just before half-time when Aaron Drinan got in between Kilgour and Taylor to direct his header past Belshaw.
Our visitors from the capital almost added a fourth in the second half. Theo Archibald's shot was well blocked by Kilgour to prevent further damage to the Rovers scoreline.
Rovers began to look more dangerous as the second half progressed when Sam Finley's long-range strike narrowly missing the target. Rovers were awarded a late penalty after a foul on Harvey Saunders. Pitman made no mistake from the spot and fired the ball past Lawrence Vigouroux in the Orient net. Rovers looked to rally after the goal, but Orient were resiliant and saw out the game to secure the three points.
Rovers travel to Walsall next Saturday (3pm) in the Sky Bet League Two.
