Match Preview: Southend United v Bristol Rovers

5 March 2020

We preview this weekend's trip to Southend United...

The Gas will be looking to bounce back from last weekend against a Southend United side struggling towards the foot of the table.

The Shrimpers host Rovers on Saturday following a spell of six straight defeats, but have provided stiff competition against the Gas already this season, taking a 2-0 lead at the Mem before Rovers fought back to win 4-2.

Manager's Preview: The Rovers boss spoke to the press on Friday morning ahead of the team departing for Roots Hall and detailed what expects from Saturday's encounter.

Pre-Match: Ben Garner on Southend

Opposition: Southend are currently on a six-game losing streak that dates back to the first weekend of February. The Shrimpers currently sit in 23rd position in the league and 17 points away from safety. Striker Charlie Kelman's six goals this season have all come in games where Southend managed to pick up a point or better, with his last strike coming in a 2-1 victory over Lincoln City in February.

Press Talk: Speaking to echo-news.co.uk ahead of this weekend's tie, Sol Campbell remained focused on progress on the pitch, rather than his side's current financial situation saying, “You can keep on moaning about things but the main thing is to prepare the team in the best way for the weekend."

Ground Guide: The team at Away Games Info have kindly put together a guide to Roots Hall, our venue for this weekend's game - check it out here.

Last Time We Met: The meeting between the two sides at the Mem produced a true game of two halves. In the first, Rovers struggled to get going and were caught cold by Southend, with the visitors going into half time 2-0 up. What followed though was a testament to the character of this Rovers side, with a JCH penalty providing the catalyst for a 2nd half comeback, with goals from Abu Ogogo, Ed Upson and Alfie Kilgour leading Rovers to a 4-2 win.

Betting: Rovers are priced at 4/1 to win on Saturday, with both teams finding the net, or matched at 8/1 to pick up a victory with a 1-0 scoreline. A repeat of the same 4-2 scoreline to Rovers from when the sides met earlier this season is offered at 66/1, to bet with Sky Bet please click HERE - please gamble responsibly.
