Match Preview - Bristol Rovers v Gillingham

1 December 2020

All the pre-match info ahead of Wednesday's encounter at the Mem...

Rovers host Gillingham at the Mem on Wednesday evening, looking to carry forward the momentum generated by a comprehensive win in the Emirates FA Cup over Darlington on Sunday.

The Gas registered six goals, with James Daly, Luke Leahy, Erhun Oztumer, Josh Hare and Sam Nicholson all featuring on the scoresheet in a victory that allowed Rovers to progress to the Third Round stage of the competition, setting up a tie with Sheffield United in the next round.

Focus now returns to Sky Bet League One, with Wednesday's fixture providing the opportunity for Rovers to begin a climb up the league standings, with the possibility of the Gas leaping four places in the table with a positive result.

Manager's Preview...

Paul Tisdale spoke to the press following Sunday's victory over Darlington to offer his thoughts on our next league opponents.

Opposition View...

Speaking his post-match debrief with Gillingham's Official website, Steve Evans touched on his admiration from the new Rovers Manager and gave his take on what he's expecting from the Gas come 7pm on Wednesday.

Speaking to gillinghamfootballclub.com, Evans said, "Paul Tisdale is a man I know very well and have a super relationship with. We have the greatest respect for each other and it will be an interesting game.

"We exchanged messages soon after he was appointed and that manager change alone will make our challenge on Wednesday much more difficult as he will have them very organised and efficient.

Form Guide...

The Gills find themselves in 13th spot in the league standings ahead of Wednesday's fixture at the Mem. Steve Evans' side endured a five-game losing streak throughout October but wins over Crewe and AFC Wimbledon in recent weeks have helped them hold on to a midtable position.

On Saturday, Gillingham exited the Emirates FA Cup at the hands of Exeter.

Midfielder Jordan Graham tops the scoring charts for the Gills, with six goals in all competitions. The former Wolves man joined Gillingham permanently in the summer, with the Gills unbeaten in every fixture where he's found the net. To add to his goal tally, Graham has five assists to his name. Steve Evans will be hoping that an injury picked up by the playmaker during their Emirates FA Cup tie on the weekend won't keep him out of contention for Wednesday's game.

Previous Encounter...

The two sides last met at the Mem back in September 2019 - with the points shared in a 1-1 draw. Tyler Smith's first-half goal had Rovers ahead in the contest and looking likely to secure the full three points. It took a 83rd minute Thomas O'Connor goal to rescue a point for the Gills.
