Girls from Mangotsfield Secondary School will represent Bristol Rovers in the Grand Final of the EFL Girl's Cup, on the famous turf at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 31st March.
The girl's travelled to Northampton University to take part in the Southern Regional Finals to compete with other school's representing Reading, Colchester and Gillingham.
The tournament didn't get off to the best starts, with Rovers falling to Colchester 5-3, although a convincing 4-2 victory against Gillingham kept the girls in the hunt of qualifying for the final. A win against Reading would give the girls a superb opportunity to finish second in the group and it couldn't have started better. Rovers took a 3-0 lead before half time and managed to cling onto the win with a 3-2 victory and ensure a place in the final against group winners Reading.
In the final, Rovers pressed high and took advantage by taking an early 2-0 lead. For the remaining 15 minutes, Rovers held back a strong Reading team and despite conceding a late goal, the girls did enough to clinch the win and a date at Wembley for the EFL Girl's Cup Final.
Nathan Hallet-Young, Head of Women's & Girl's at Bristol Rovers Community Trust said, "We're all incredibly proud of the girl's and they fully deserve the chance to play at Wembley after the hard work they have put in today and in the previous tournaments.
"The level of football was very high and we really had to dig in to make sure we did enough to qualify for the Final. Obviously, we can't wait to walk down Wembley Way, especially if Bristol Rovers can join us by beating Sunderland at The Memorial Stadium next week."
The Grand Final takes place before The Checkatrade Cup Final on Sunday 31st March at Wembley Stadium.
