Opposition View: AFC Wimbledon

22 October 2018

A detailed look at Tuesday's Sky Bet League One opponents, AFC Wimbledon.

Press Talk...

AFC Wimbledon first-team coach Simon Bassey previewed the game to press on Monday afternoon and spoke about what he expects from both his side and Rovers on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to afcwimbldeon.co.uk, Bassey said, "I've watched their (Rovers) game against Oxford."

"It was totally different and a bit like us against Portsmouth really. They started with one shape, changed at half-time, and made two subs. They came out with a different team, different shape, and they had a good second-half, so we are expecting something along the same lines to what they produced in the second-half. Obviously, we've worked this morning on how to counteract that, looking at their strengths, weaknesses, and how we can cause them problems. We have to tighten up at the back and look to cause other teams more problems as well."

Star Man...

Striker Joe Pigott has supplied a constant stream of goals for AFC Wimbledon so far this campaign. The striker, who scored the only goal of the game in our last meeting back in February, has six goals so far in all competitions. Pigott opened his account for the 2018/19 campaign on the opening weekend of the season, netting in a narrow win away at Fleetwood. The forward has since found the net against the likes of Portsmouth, Sunderland and West Ham - with his most recent league goal coming against Oxford at the end of September.

Recent Form...

Neal Ardley's side head into Tuesday's clash on the back of four straight defeat in Sky Bet League One. The South London side are currently level on points with Rovers - but the Dons have considerably worst goal difference, which has seen them drop into the bottom four. On Saturday, AFC Wimbledon were defeated by a 2-0 scoreline on the road at Blackpool.
