Left-Back Tareiq Holmes-Dennis Joins Rovers From Huddersfield Town

23 July 2018

The club is very pleased to announce the arrival of left-sided defender Tareiq Holmes-Dennis from Premier League outfit Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year old spent last year on loan at Portsmouth, however suffered an injury on the opening day of the season which unfortunately ruled him out for the remainder of it.

Prior to that campaign, Holmes-Dennis made 15 appearances in all competitions as Huddersfield achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club's history.

Born in London, the left-back's career begun at Charlton Athletic, where he progressed through the youth system to sign his first professional deal in 2013, however his senior debut would have to wait a further year.

The energetic defender moved on loan to then-League Two club Oxford United in October 2014, making his Football League debut that same month in a 2-0 home victory over Tranmere Rovers.

He stayed at the Kassam Stadium until February 2015 and was a regular feature in the side before being recalled by the Addicks, however was strangely loaned back out a week later to Plymouth Arygle, where he was a part of the play-off campaign that ended in semi-final defeat to Wycombe Wanderers.

Over the course of the 2014/15 season, Holmes-Dennis made a combined 31 league appearances for Oxford and Plymouth.

His next temporary home was to be League One Oldham Athletic, joining late in the season in March and making 10 league appearances before snapped up by then-Championship side Huddersfield on a three-year deal.

Holmes-Dennis also has a cap for England's Under-18s, playing in a 1-0 defeat to Belgium in March 2013.

Manager Darrell Clarke was delighted to recruit his sixth new player of the summer, "Tareiq is a player that we have chasing for a number of weeks.

"Obviously, he had the disappointment of missing the last campaign through injury but has applied himself well to get back fully fit.

"He arrives at the Club at a good age and we are hoping that Tareiq is able to hold down the left-back position for a number of seasons to come."

Tareiq has travelled to Holland with the rest of the squad to take part in this weeks training camp.
