Chris Hargreaves' side will entertain Exeter City on Thursday, 30th August at the Memorial Stadium - kick-off at 7pm in a Premier League Cup qualifying round tie.
The Development Squad narrowly missed out qualification for the tournament last season - losing to Bury in an epic penalty shootout.
The Premier League Cup is a National competition and consists of eight groups of four clubs. During the group stage, each team will play each other twice (home and away), playing six matches in the process.
The winner of each group, plus the runners-up, will advance to the knock-out stages.
There will then be round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final (all one-leg fixtures) to decide the champion.
If Rovers progress, they will be in a group with Leicester City, Norwich City and Nottingham Forest.
Ticket details for the fixture will be made available in the near future.
