Rovers may not be playing in Portugal until July, but Rovers’ skipper Tom Lockyer will be heading over there next week as a member of a 26-man Welsh International squad.
The Welsh squad will be in Portugal from 29th May preparing for their World Cup Qualifying match against Serbia in Belgrade on Sunday 11th June.
Already capped seven times at Under-21 level for his country, the training camp will see him work alongside players who represented Wales at last year’s European Championships in France.
Hopefully, this is a first step on the way to a first senior cap for Tom and everyone at the club would like to congratulate him on his selection.
Speaking of his selection today Tom said; “Naturally I’m really pleased that I’m in the manager’s thoughts and I’m looking forward to the week with the squad.
"However, I’m not getting carried away by things and will remain grounded and focus on working hard.”
On naming his squad this morning, Wales Manager Chris Coleman said "We have to start planning for the future, maybe in the next few months and years you will see these names on the teamsheet starting for Wales.
"These younger guys have earned the right to be in this training squad through what they've done with their club sides over the season and I'm looking to see what they can bring to this training camp.
"It's great for lads like Tom Lockyer and the rest to be in and around the full International set up and I know that if I have to call on them, they will be ready."
