Leyton Orient 3-1 Bristol Rovers - Saturday 11th March
Last Saturday our U-18s side travelled to play Leyton Orient in their second fixture in Merit League One, and went down 3-1 in spite of a second half goal by James Spruce.
PDP Coach David Buckwell, taking charge of the side for the last time before his move to Bristol City, said; “We made an excellent start to the game, but didn’t take any of the early chances we created and struggled to really test their keeper.
“To be honest, we seemed to lack our usual edge in front of goal.
"Leyton Orient then ruthlessly punished us when a wide player cut inside and put the ball in the top corner from 20 yards.
“With the score being 1-0 at half-time, Tom Parrinello and I felt that the level of performance was ok although we hadn't thrived on our big moments and Leyton Orient had.
“Going into the second half the game followed much the same pattern; we created a number of chances, but struggled to make them count and Leyton Orient doubled their lead within 15 minutes of the restart.
“We responded well and made it 2-1 after excellent work between James Spruce and Jordan Carey ended when Jordan was brought down in the area.
James converted the resulting spot kick, but although we pushed hard for an equaliser we struggled to come up with the next goal and Leyton Orient scored again to wrap things up.”
