Match Previews

10 March 2017

We take a look at Saturday's opponents in SkyBet League One, Southend United.

Team News: Rovers are without defender Peter Hartley, who remains sidelined with a long-term injury.

Steve Yates' view: 'We felt a little bit hard done by with the penalty at their place earlier this season, but that was a long time ago and those things even themselves out.

'Southend have been consistent this season and we will have to be on our toes and approach the game in the same way that we approach every game in this division. If we work hard and we do the right things, then we will give Southend a good game.'

Opposition: Southend United are currently seventh in SkyBet League One, with a points tally of fifty-four from thirty-five games. In their ten games, they have won four, drawn three and lost three. On the road this season, Southend have registered six wins, five draws and six defeats, scoring twenty-two goals in the process.

Dangerman #10 - Simon Cox: The striker arrived at Roots Hall this summer and has eleven goals to his name so far for the Shrimpers.

An experienced striker that has made over two-hundred-and-fifty appearances in his twelve-year career, the twenty-nine-year-old was described by Phil Brown as a 'real coup for the Club' when he signed in July 2016.

Cox bagged his first goal for Southend in their 3-0 victory at Sheffield United back in August.

In recent games, the striker has found the net four times in his last ten outings.

Last Time Out: The sides played out a 1-1 draw back at Roots Hall in August. Peter Hartley put Rovers in front, but the defender's goal was cancelled out by a Simon Cox penalty ten minutes before the full-time whistle.

Tickets: Early-bird tickets are available until midnight tonight. Tickets will be available on the day.

Betting: League sponsors SkyBet offer the following betting preview for Saturday's game.

'Bristol Rovers are 6/4 favourites with Sky Bet to win Saturday's home game against Southend United, with the visitors 2/1 and the draw 23/10.

The two sides drew 1-1 at Roots Hall back in August and a repeat of that scoreline can be backed at 5/1. Rovers to win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 is 9/4 in the correct score group betting, while they are 3/1 to win to nil and the same price to win by exactly one goal.

Ellis Harrison is 9/2 to score the first goal and 7/4 to score any time in 90 minutes.'
