Ahead of the Inaugural Dinner for Former Players on Thursday 27th April, a new Association has today been launched, which will be run independently from the parent Club.
Gas legend, Vaughan Jones, was clearly delighted with the news when www.bristolrovers.co.uk caught up with him earlier this week. He said; “I have always enjoyed the get togethers and camaraderie of former players and the welcome formation of BRFPA as a proper association will enable us to move to a more organised structure.”
Another legend, stalwart Andy Tillson was equally supportive. “Like Vaughan, I welcome BRFPA and I am sure that the fans will appreciate us former players not only promoting but also being part of the 134 year old history of Bristol Rovers Football Club,” he added.
Former Rovers Secretary, Roger Brinsford, has been asked to initially co-ordinate the drawing up of a constitution for BRFPA and the setting up of a committee to administer and promote sporting and social activities for the benefit and enjoyment of players and fans alike.
Roger is looking specifically for supporters who would be keen to undertake the following suggested roles ~
Vice Chair and Social Secretary
Membership & Committee Secretary
Web Master and Newsletter Editor
Players Liaison (former player)
He said, “Amongst Rovers supporters there are many with specific talents who would love being part of an exciting new project which is BRFPA. If you have the expertise and are interested, please contact me by email – firstname.lastname@example.org.
An initial meeting has been arranged for Thursday 6th April in the Memorial Room at The Memorial Stadium, commencing 7.30 pm.
Those who feel that they can make a contribution are invited to attend.
