UNDER-18'S DRAW FIRST GAME OF 2017

12 January 2017

Bristol Rovers 3-3 Swindon Town

Our Under-18 side played out a 3-3 draw against their Swindon Town counterparts in their first EFL South West Youth Alliance game of 2017.

PDP Coach Davis Buckwell had this to say after the game. “The start of the game was fairly even, with Swindon probably edging the first half with slightly more territory in our half.

“However, a purposeful ball forward from Matt Swan caused confusion between two Swindon Town defenders and Lewis Ellington ruthlessly punished the error by lobbing the goalkeeper from 30 yards.

“We then doubled our advantage through Luke Russe following a high regain from Lewis Ellington, who slipped in James Spruce and the goalkeeper parried his shot into Luke’s path and he applied a tidy finish.

“It was fair to say that we got our reward with the lead more for the patience we showed off the ball as opposed to the time we spent on the ball and creating chances.

“Although we contained Swindon well, we were undone from two corners late in the first half with Swindon getting the rub of the green for their second goal after the referee deemed the ball to go over the line when perhaps it didn’t.

“It wasn’t to be our day; Tyrone Tucker-Dixon broke into the box well early in the second half and although clearly fouled, no penalty was given.

“Swindon took the lead late on, but our response was swift and Lewis Ellington was on hand to tap in a rebound from Luke Russe following a clever cross from Jordan Carey.

“We were disappointed that we didn't get the rub of the green, but can only have ourselves to blame for letting a two-goal lead slip.

“As always it will give us plenty to work on, but there were plenty of positives to take from the game against a strong Swindon team.”
