Bristol Rovers Community Trust's Head of Education, Marco Chiavetta, updates us on the Futsal programme, which today has seen the first year scholars crowned as National League Regional Champions.
“It has been a great academic start, with overachieving grades across the board. The second year scholars approaching the end of their time on the highly successful BTEC course have also found another gear in the classroom and have been extremely focused on achieving the best grades possible for them to move on to bigger and better things.
“Over 50% of the second year cohort have already shown interested and committed their time to another two years at Bristol Rovers, with them accepting places on the Foundation Degree offered by the Community Trust and accredited by the University of South Wales, with others viewing their options into the world of work or other universities.
"With the regional season coming to a close this week, we are delighted to announce Bristol Rovers first year scholars were crowned national league regional champions, following their 6-3 victory over Plymouth in Cardiff. Through the trials and tribulations of the season, it is no wonder that the first years were unbeaten all season. All the hard work, cold mornings, fitness and technical sessions and team building all paid off in the end. This is the first time in four years that Bristol Rovers have been back on the top of the EFL Futsal tree.
"The season also saw a great introduction to Futsal for our development team and it was a tough battle through the course of the season for our second years, with both teams finishing with their heads held high and with the upmost respect from all the Bristol Rovers staff.
"We now begin the road to nationals which could see us play the likes of Leeds, Newcastle, Middlesborough, Chelsea, Fulham and a whole host of Premier League clubs. With all this in mind, the firsts years are tipped to take the tournament by storm and end with a final four finish, firmly putting Bristol Rovers Futsal back on the map.
“I would like to take this opportunity to say congratulations to all of the players involved in the futsal programme including the coaches that have had a huge impact on the players that they have moulded and taught to play this beautiful game.
“For all of those that are reading this and feel you would love to be a part of our highly successful education and Futsal programme, please come along to our open evening on the 8th of February and all of your questions will be answered about the programme. Please be aware that we have limited spaces left and you must apply early to avoid any disappointment!”
