ROVERS EXTEND UNBEATEN RUN AT HOME WITH VICTORY OVER OLDHAM

17 April 2017

Bristol Rovers 1-0 Oldham Athletic

Attendance: 9,083 (425 away)

A 75th minute Ellis Harrison goal earned Rovers a 1-0 victory over Oldham Athletic at the Mem.

Rovers boss Darrell Clarke made a number of changes for the visit of Oldham, with Cristian Montano, Joe Partington, Luke James and Robert Harris all being recalled to the starting XI.

In the opening seconds of the encounter, Billy Bodin took advantage of space inside the Oldham half to run purposefully at goal and from twenty yards the winger unleashed a powerfully struck shot that required Oldham 'keeper Connor Ripley to be alert to make a save down to his left.

The visitors created an early opportunity of their own, with Tope Obadeyi losing his marker and deflecting a close-range header over the crossbar from a dangerous cross into the Rovers area.

Both sides struggled to create chances during the opening forty-five minutes, as Ellis Harrison came the closest to breaking the deadlock with a well-struck effort from the edge of the area that was acrobatically stopped by a diving save from Connor Ripley.

In the opening minutes of the second half, a clever pass from Billy Bodin cut open the Oldham defence, with the ball running into the path of Luke James. The striker was patient and steadied himself before shooting on goal, but his effort ran narrowly past the right-hand post.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 75th minute, as a pass across the eighteen-yard box from Byron Moore found Ellis Harrison and the striker produced a neat turn which opened up a shooting opportunity and the striker directed a powerful effort on goal that beat Ripley for pace to give Rovers the lead.

The visitors forced a chance to bring the scores level just moments after going behind, as a cross from deep pinballed around the area before falling kindly for Lee Erwin, with the in-form Oldham striker forcing Joe Lumley into making a reaction save with his legs.

Late on a cross into the Oldham area from substitute Ryan Broom perfectly picked out Billy Bodin, but with just the 'keeper to beat the winger couldn't control the ball out off his feet and the visitors were able to clear the danger, but Rovers saw out the remaining minutes to record the victory.

The win extends Rovers' unbeaten run at home to twelve games, with just Millwall left to visit the Mem this season in SkyBet League One.

Next up for Rovers is a trip to face Peterborough United next Saturday in SkyBet League One.
