MATCH PREVIEW: BRISTOL ROVERS vs WALSALL

13 September 2016

We take a quick look at tonight's opponents!

Bristol Rovers go into tonight's game looking to get their second win of the season against Walsall.

Rovers: Darrell Clarke's men will be looking to build on Saturday's point with Rochdale in tonight's rearranged fixture.

Team News: Rovers have a full squad to pick from with the exception of Jake Clarke-Salter who remains at Chelsea as he recovers from his slight knee injury.

Darrell's View:”It wasn't the result that I thought we deserved on Saturday and we need to get the three points tonight.

"We haven't played as many games as others in the division due to postponements and the Swindon game so it's important we get a result this evening."

Opposition: Today's opposition Walsall currently sit in 20th position with five points from their six games this season. Jon Whitney's men tasted defeat in their last outing losing 2-0 at Sixfields at the hands of Northampton Town.

Dangerman - Simeon Jackson: The experienced striker joined the Saddlers in the summer penning a two year deal. Born in Jamaica, Jackson moved to Canada as a child where he started out in youth football, before moving to the UK as a teenager.

Jackson has had spells with several English clubs including Gillingham, Norwich and Blackburn Rovers and has hit the back of the net on three occasions this season but didn't start the Saddler's last fixture having just returned from International duty with Canada.

Last Time Out: Last time the sides met in 2001, Walsall thrashed Dave Penney’s Rovers 6-1. Andy Butler headed in to put the hosts ahead and Matthew Gill smashed in a low shot to double the advantage.

Julian Gray volleyed in to put the Saddlers 3-0 up at half-time, before Jeff Hughes pulled one back just after the break with a low strike. Matt Richards struck from 25 yards to restore Walsall's lead, before Alex Nicholls' volley and a second Butler header completed the rout.
