As the 2016/17 season begins, the new futsal recruits kicked off their campaign with the annual EFL Trust Futsal Festival, this year hosted at Cardiff City’s state of the art futsal arena.

The squad completed an intense pre-season and now had the opportunity to experience competitive matches and gain an insight to the season ahead.

Fifteen players travelled, along with Marco Chiavetta, Nathan Gould and Ben Squire who coach and overlook the programme on a daily basis.

Bristol Rovers (A) began strongly with a comfortable win over Cardiff City. Goals from Kian, Oscar, and Joe helped Rovers to a 7-1 victory while Bristol Rovers (B) did not start as convincingly, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Exeter City.

There was continued success for the A team as Rovers took on the old enemy Bristol City and secured initial bragging rights thanks to a 3-1 win. Bristol Rovers (B) shared the points against Cardiff City in an end-to-end 1-1 draw.

It was three wins from three for the A team, as they overcame a strong Exeter City side 3-0, sealing a successful tournament. Bristol Rovers (B) fell short against Plymouth, as they endured a 1-0 defeat.

All players can take credit for a successful tournament, and can now look forward to an exciting season ahead. Nathan Gould said "I haven’t had much chance to work with the players yet, but I was happy with the performances. Everyone worked hard, everyone was disciplined and everyone exceeded expectations during this early stage. It’s going to be a positive year."
