Cheltenham Town 2-1 Bristol Rovers

A strong Bristol Rovers side lost to Cheltenham Town this afternoon in the Central League.

First Team squad members Mark McChrystal, Lee Mansell, Billy Bodin, Byron Moore, Luke James, and Tyler Lyttle started the game along with Academy goalkeeper Kieran Hodges with the remaining sports being taken up by trailists.

In what was a fast paced fixture, the home side took the lead in the ninth minute as a Robins trialist took the ball well inside the Rovers area before finishing calmly past Hodges.

After going a goal behind Rovers seemingly clicked into gear with Billy Bodin looking positive on the right hand side. The Welshman showed good feet to skip past his marker before fining Luke James inside the penalty area but he failed to hit the target.

However for all their pressure, it was Chris Hargreave's side that went a second goal behind thanks to Danny Wright.

Jacob Nutting delivered an inch perfect cross from the right hand side into the chest of Wright who controlled the ball superbly before firing a low shot past Kieran Hodges.

Rovers continued to press for an opening goal and a way back into the game with First Team squad players Billy Bodin and Luke James a highlight in the first half. On the half hour mark Bodin showed his defender a clean pair of heels before being hauled down by Matthew Bower. Bodin dusted himself down and took the free kick himself but fired it directly into the Cheltenham wall.

At the end of the first half Bodin showed some more good movement before picking out Byron Moore inside the penalty area but the winger couldn't sort his feet out quick enough for what would have been a very tough volley.

Chris Hargreaves side went into the second half looking like the much stronger side, with efforts from Luke James and a trialist failing to test Calum Kitscha in the Robins goal.

Further chances came and went for this Rovers side as a trialist was able to pick out Lee Mansell on the edge of the area but his shot was well blocked by Dan O'Shaughnessy.

Calum Kitscha continued to impress in goal for the home side but he was finally beaten on the 81st minute as a Rovers trialist to a neat touch inside the penalty area before slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Both sides had chances in the closing stages but neither troubled the scoreboard with Cheltenham running out 2-1 winners.
