Yesterday Bristol Rovers players and staff participated in the clubs annual charity Golf Day at Farrington Park Golf Club.

Monday’s event was sponsored by Thatchers Cider and took place on the 18 hole Duchy course at Farrington Park in fantastic, but chilly conditions and a great day was had by all.

The fifth hole at Farrington was changed to the Charity hole in aid of Bristol Rovers Community Trust where £480 was raised for the clubs community arm.

At the end of the day the final scores were tallied and the overall winners of the day were Bristol Irish Golf Society who were captained by George Blackburn and accompanied by former Rovers player Dave Mehew.

3rd – Maples Muppets (accompanied by Stuart Naylor)

4th – Pensord (accompanied by Rory Gaffney)
  • Four ball at Kendleshire Golf Club
Throughout the day there were other prizes on offer for skilled golfers as holes eight and fifteen held closest to the pin competitions.

Paul Hynham from the J&G Fencing side won himself four brand new car tyres courtesy of Avon Tyres where as the prize of a four ball at Farrington Golf and Country Club was won at the fifteenth by Toby Brett from Heineken UK.

On the 18th hole, the club held a longest drive competition where Danny Farren from Third Generation Gas clocked a 300+ yard tee-shot winning himself a four ball at Filton Golf Club.

A special mention also goes out to Rovers fan Will Hobbs who was called in at the eleventh hour to take part in yesterday’s event. The 21-year old Mendip Springs Assistant Pro Golfer joined the J&G Fencing team and shot an impressive 13-Under Par 59 which included nine birdies, one eagle and a hole in one.

When reflecting on the event, Bristol Rovers Stadium & Commercial Manager Ian Holtby said “We would like to make a special mention and thanks to Farrington Park Golf Club for keeping the course in excellent condition for us as well as providing everyone with a superb meal at the end of the day along with their outstanding hospitality throughout the whole event.

“We would also like to mention the lead sponsor of the event Thatchers Brewery, along with Bristol Blue Glass who provided the gifts for our winners (pictured above) as well as Office Beverages who kept everyone sufficiently hydrated throughout the day.

”We've been holding this event for a number of years now and I have to say that this years was the biggest and best by far. We had over 100 golfers taking part and the standard of golf throughout was exceptional, we can't wait to start organising next years event and thank you for all your support."

Bristol Rovers would also like to thank Manager Darrell Clarke and his squad for their attendance at the event and we would also like to thank all the teams that participated in the event which was a tremendous success and look forward to an even better event next year!
