Bristol Rovers 4-1 Cheltenham TownOur Under-18 side recorded a comfortable victory against Cheltenham Town yesterday, thanks to goals from Lewis Ellington (2), Jordan Carey and James Spruce.
Speaking after the game PDP Coach David Buckwell said; “We made a good start to the game, just as we did in the previous week’s game against Portsmouth.
“We created a number of chances in the first half and built our attacks really positively with the ball. Whilst that was a major positive, and had been the focus in our preparation, we have also been working hard to defend better as a team and we were defensively very solid in the opening 45 minutes.
“In spite of playing well, though, the opening period remained goalless but that changed shorty after half time when four goals were scored in a ten minute spell.
“We took a deserved lead on 50 minutes when Lewis Ellington applied a tidy finish to an excellent driven cross from James Spruce.
“Lewis doubled our lead five minutes later when he scored following a Connor Jones corner.
“Cheltenham responded quickly and pulled a goal back before Jordan Carey made it 3-1 after a through ball from Lewis Ellington caused a defensive mix up and Jordan applied a smart toe poked finish.
“The game was sealed on 85 minutes when James Spruce finished well after taking one touch in the box from an excellent pass from Sam Blake.
“The players worked extremely hard, as they always do, and what was most impressive was the way they executed the game plan with the ball whilst maintaining a good defensive discipline.
“The boys will take a lot of confidence from their performance, in and out of possession, from this game.
