AFC Bournemouth  4 - 0 Bristol Rovers - Saturday 29th October

Just two days after beating Oxford United in the FA Youth Cup our U-18 side slipped to a 4-0 defeat against AFC Bournemouth in an EFL South West Youth Alliance league match.

PDP Coach David Buckwell admitted that it was a disappointing result and said; “There can’t be any excuses about the result, which reflected the game."

"Although we had chances in a goalless first half, we failed to take them were ultimately got punished."

“We challenged the players to play a more conservative style in the opening and to maintain a good defensive shape without the ball."

“To be fair to them, they defended well and at half time we felt that we had more to offer and so changed our shape and tried to get a grip of the game with the ball and build the attacks in the style we like to play. “Unfortunately, our execution in that department wasn’t there on the day and that made us more open and we didn’t have the intensity to our pressing and recovery to defend when we were more open."

“Whilst it’s disappointing, as a team we were stretched, having played Oxford just two days before this match, and I think we have learned that as long as the team is organised and disciplined its ok to not have the ball and for us to show how well we can defend and counter attack.”
