PICK UP A COPY OF OUR MATCHDAY PROGRAMME!

30 December 2016

If you are coming to The Memorial Stadium tomorrow for our New Year’s Eve fixture against AFC Wimbledon, then we hope you will pick up a matchday programme.

In this issue manager Darrell Clarke pens his own notes and we carry an interview with Lee Brown who looks back at what has been a momentous year for him and the club – who will ever forget Browner’s right foot!

Our centre spread is given over to a poster of Matty Taylor, ideal for the younger members of the family to get signed as a keepsake.

We were the first side to play against AFC Wimbledon when they were promoted into the Football league five years ago but in this issue we look back to March of this year when goals from Jermaine Easter, Ollie Clarke and Matty Taylor gave us a 3-1 win against The Dons.

Amazingly, it’s 20 years since we played our first game at The Memorial Stadium and that fact is celebrated by historian Leigh Edwards, who looks back at key moments for the club in the month of December over the course of those 20 years.

We also bring you news and views from our support organisations, namely The Supporters Club, Helpline, The Presidents Club and The Young Pirates.

Our Academy section brings you an U-18 match report along with profiles of the Academy staff who work so hard behind the scenes, while we profile second year scholar Luke Russe.

The Name’s the Same, an article by Stephen Byrne, looks at two players by the name of Smith, Michael, who now plays for Peterborough United, and John who scored four goals on his debut for the club…back in 1907!

For the second programme running George Best is featured as one of the famous who played against The Gas…it’s almost thirty years since our photo was taken, ‘Bestie’ playing for Fulham at Eastville in February 1977.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg! With 84 pages to get through, we believe there is something for everyone in this season’s programme and hope that as many of you as possible will purchase a copy on Saturday and for the rest of the season.

Priced at only £3.00 it really is a bargain!

The Pirate is available from the club shop, online, or from sellers around the ground…don’t forget to buy yours!
