Josh Wakefield signs on loan!

Rovers have today completed the loan signing of AFC Bournemouth midfielder Josh Wakefield.

The 21 year old moves to the Memorial Stadium in a one-month loan deal and will meet his new teammates for the first time tomorrow morning.

Josh began a two-year scholarship with AFC Bournemouth in 2010 and has, to date, appeared in three league games for the Cherries, all from the bench, since making his debut when going on as a second half substitute against Scunthorpe United in April 2012.

He has spent time on loan with Wimborne Town, Hamworthy United, Dagenham & Redbridge, Dorchester Town and Welling United and has appeared in ten Vanarama Conference games for Torquay United this season.

Manager Darrell Clarke, whose midfield has been a little bit depleted following injuries to Ollie Clarke and Stuart Sinclair, was pleased to be able to bring in a new signing ahead of Saturday’s home game against Lincoln City.

“I’m delighted that Josh has agreed to sign for us. He has had an excellent grounding in the game with AFC Bournemouth, and he has experience of playing Conference football with Torquay United this season.

“I am looking forward to working with him and I’m sure he will prove to be a valuable addition to our squad.”

Chairman Nick Higgs said; “We have been a little bit unfortunate with injuries in the last few weeks and it was imperative that Darrell brought another player in to cover for the loss of some key players through injury.

“Josh is a welcome addition to the squad and I would like to formally welcome him to Bristol Rovers and wish him every success whilst he is with us.”
