Bristol Rovers 1-1 Cheltenham TownSat 11th April 2015
A Tyler Lyttle goal gave our U-18 side a draw in this Merit League Two game against Cheltenham Town.
Rovers were defending an unbeaten record going into this game against a strong Cheltenham side and, once again, conditions at Golden Hill were far from ideal.
“The pitch was very bobbly, and the wind made life difficult for both sides”, said Youth Team Manager Alan Walsh.
“However the lads put in an excellent performance and looked the most likely team to go on and pick up all three points.
“Cheltenham are a good side though they do rely a lot on set pieces for their goals and after a goalless first half, when we were unfortunate not to go ahead, we conceded soon after half time.
“It came from poor defending on our part, and was a little bit fortuitous. Alfie Kilgour’s attempted interception of a through pass saw the ball come off the bottom of his studs and allowed a Cheltenham player to get a shot away across goal, which entered the net in spite of Tyler Lyttle’s desperate attempt to keep it out.”
The defender, though, was on hand to net the equaliser after 57 minutes.
“It came from a good move down the left and when Laurent Davis-Wilson crossed to the back post Tyler, who had made up a lot of ground to get in the box, volleyed a close range effort high into the roof of the net.
“We did have a couple of opportunities after that, but were unable to force a winner.”
